The Basin Characterization Model (BCM) version 8 (v8; described in Flint and others, 2021) for the Great Basin is 200 by 200-meter spatial resolution with monthly intervals ranging from water years 1896 to 2025. This data release includes downscaled Great Basin BCM gridded climate inputs, hydrologic outputs, and a model archive. Downscaled gridded climate inputs include: precipitation (ppt), minimum temperature (tmn), maximum temperature (tmx), and potential evapotranspiration (pet). Gridded hydrologic variables include: actual evapotranspiration (aet), climatic water deficit (cwd), snowpack (pck), recharge (rch), runoff (run), and soil storage (str). The units for temperature variables are degrees Celsius, and all other variables are in millimeters. Monthly historical variables from water years 1896 to 2025 are summarized into water year files and long-term average summaries for water years 1961 to 1990, 1981 to 2010, and 1991 to 2020. At this scale, model parameters are adjusted to provide the best fit to hydrologic targets and observations aggregated over relatively large areas. The authors consider the resulting broad spatial distribution and large-scale temporal variability of in-place recharge and runoff to be representative of historical conditions. Regional calibration of the Great Basin BCM minimizes simulated errors across the model domain. However, because the model uses regionalized representations of bedrock geology and vegetation types, simulated errors may be positive in some watersheds and negative in others. These errors can offset one another at the regional scale, resulting in a minimized apparent error for the model domain as a whole.\nBecause simulated errors in the Great Basin BCM can vary in magnitude and direction at the local scale relative to regional-scale results, the recommended best practice for using the model provided in this data release is to extract relevant subareas and perform localized calibration. Localized calibration can incorporate site-specific knowledge and improve estimates of recharge and runoff, providing a more robust basis for comparison with independent estimates of local basin-scale water budgets.", "distribution": [ { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", - "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.15482/USDA.ADC/31114333", + "accessURL": "https://doi.org/10.5066/P1IYMMO2", "description": "Landing page for access to the data", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "application/http", @@ -32,47 +32,99 @@ { "@type": "dcat:Distribution", "description": "The metadata original format", - "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.dcde8656-023e-4381-b5a5-bae9a3aefdd1.xml", + "downloadURL": "https://data.usgs.gov/datacatalog/metadata/USGS.699f974cb66b01a68b60a644.xml", "format": "XML", "mediaType": "text/xml", "title": "Original Metadata" } ], - "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_dcde8656-023e-4381-b5a5-bae9a3aefdd1", - "keyword": [ - "USGS:dcde8656-023e-4381-b5a5-bae9a3aefdd1", - "environment", + "identifier": "http://datainventory.doi.gov/id/dataset/USGS_699f974cb66b01a68b60a644", + "keyword": [ + "Arizona", + "Atmospheric and Climatic Processes", + "California", + "Evaporation", + "Great Basin", + "Hydrology", + "Idaho", + "Mathematical Modeling", + "Modeling", + "Nevada", + "Oregon", + "Permeability", + "Precipitation (atmospheric)", + "Snow and Ice Cover", + "Soil Moisture", + "Streamflow", + "Surface Water (non-marine)", + "Transpiration", + "USGS:699f974cb66b01a68b60a644", + "United States", + "Utah", + "Water Budget", + "Water Cycle", + "Water Resources", + "Watershed Management", + "Wyoming", + "climatologyMeteorologyAtmosphere", + "geoscientificInformation", "health", "inlandWaters" ], - "modified": "2026-08-01T00:00:00Z", + "modified": "2026-09-15T00:00:00Z", "publisher": { "@type": "org:Organization", "name": "U.S. Geological Survey" }, - "spatial": "-88.4619, 43.4689, -87.4292, 45.0270", + "spatial": "-122.4525, 35.5244, -109.3054, 43.6648", "theme": [ "geospatial" ], - "title": "Data from: Association of runoff risk with private well contamination in a fractured dolostone aquifer" - }, - "description": "This repository contains data supporting the publication, \"Association of runoff risk with private well contamination in a fractured dolostone aquifer.\" In this study, a cohort of private wells in the Silurian dolomite aquifer of northeast Wisconsin, USA, was repeatedly sampled to determine an association between modeled runoff risk using the Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast (RRAF, v. 2.1; https://runoffriskadvisory.wi.gov/) and well water contamination. The PLACES project is the expansion of the original 500 Cities project and covers the entire United States—50 states and the District of Columbia (DC)—at county, place, census tract, and ZIP Code tabulation Areas (ZCTA) levels. It represents a first-of-its kind effort to release information uniformly on this large scale for local areas at 4 geographic levels. Estimates were provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Population Health, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch. The project was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in conjunction with the CDC Foundation. The dataset includes estimates for 27 measures: 5 chronic disease-related unhealthy behaviors, 13 health outcomes, and 9 on use of preventive services. These estimates can be used to identify emerging health problems and to inform development and implementation of effective, targeted public health prevention activities. Because the small area model cannot detect effects due to local interventions, users are cautioned against using these estimates for program or policy evaluations. Data sources used to generate these model-based estimates include Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) 2018 or 2017 data, Census Bureau 2010 population data, and American Community Survey (ACS) 2014-2018 or 2013-2017 estimates. The 2020 release uses 2018 BRFSS data for 23 measures and 2017 BRFSS data for 4 measures (high blood pressure, taking high blood pressure medication, high cholesterol, and cholesterol screening). Four measures are based on the 2017 BRFSS because the relevant questions are only asked every other year in the BRFSS.
