+ "description": "The Nonattainment Area - Particulate Matter -2.5 Annual (1997) dataset was updated on August 31, 2026 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). This dataset provides detailed information about areas identified in the U.S. where annual particulate matter (PM2.5) levels have not met the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) established in 1997 for particulate matter (PM2.5) and have been designated \"nonattainment areas (NAA)\". The 1997 Primary Annual PM-2.5 NAAQS is revoked in attainment and maintenance areas for that NAAQS. For additional information see the PM-2.5 NAAQS SIP Requirements Final Rule, effective October 24, 2016 (https://www.govinfo.gov/link/fr/81/58009). These data are weekly from an OAQPS internal database. However, that does not necessarily mean the data have changed. The dataset depicts the authoritative locations of the most commonly known Department of Defense (DoD) sites, installations, ranges, and training areas world-wide. These sites encompass land which is federally owned or otherwise managed. This dataset was created from source data provided by the four Military Service Component headquarters and was compiled by the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) Program within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment. Only sites reported in the BSR or released in a map supplementing the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act of 2018 (FIRRMA) Real Estate Regulation (31 CFR Part 802) were considered for inclusion. This list does not necessarily represent a comprehensive collection of all Department of Defense facilities. For inventory purposes, installations are comprised of sites, where a site is defined as a specific geographic location of federally owned or managed land and is assigned to military installation. DoD installations are commonly referred to as a base, camp, post, station, yard, center, homeport facility for any ship, or other activity under the jurisdiction, custody, control of the DoD.\n\nWhile every attempt has been made to provide the best available data quality, this data set is intended for use at mapping scales between 1:50,000 and 1:3,000,000. For this reason, boundaries in this data set may not perfectly align with DoD site boundaries depicted in other federal data sources. Maps produced at a scale of 1:50,000 or smaller which otherwise comply with National Map Accuracy Standards, will remain compliant when this data is incorporated. Boundary data is most suitable for larger scale maps; point locations are better suited for mapping scales between 1:250,000 and 1:3,000,000.\n\nIf a site is part of a Joint Base (effective/designated on 1 October, 2010) as established under the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process, it is attributed with the name of the Joint Base. All sites comprising a Joint Base are also attributed to the responsible DoD Component, which is not necessarily the pre-2005 Component responsible for the site. - "description": "The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), is producing detailed geologic maps of the coastal sea floor. Bathymetry and sidescan-sonar imagery, originally collected by NOAA for charting purposes, provides a fundamental framework for research and management activities in Long Island Sound, shows the composition and terrain of the seabed, and provides information on sediment transport and benthic habitat. During October 2008 NOAA completed hydrographic survey H11251 offshore of Rocky Point, New York and during November 2009, bottom photographs and surficial sediment data were acquired as part of a ground-truth reconnaissance survey of this area. Interpretive data layers were derived from the multibeam echo-sounder and sidescan-sonar data and the ground-truth data used to verify them. For more information on the ground-truth survey see http://quashnet.er.usgs.gov/data/2009/09059/",

- "description": "The Loxahatchee River and estuary is a small (544 square miles), shallow, water body located in Southeastern Florida that empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Jupiter Inlet. The watershed drains an area of over 200 square miles within northern Palm Beach and southern Martin counties. Historically this system was primarily fresh-water; however, tidal flows opened the inlet for some of the time. In 1947, the inlet was dredged for navigation and has remained permanently open since that time. Drainage patterns within the basin have been significantly altered due to drainage and development, road construction (e.g., Florida Turnpike, BeeLine Highway), and construction of the C-18 canal to provide flood protection for residential areas.\nThe St. Lucie Estuary (SLE) and its watershed are located on the Southeast coast of Florida in Martin and St. Lucie counties. The SLE watershed encompasses about 781 square miles and is divided into five major basins, which discharge into the Indian River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean through the St. Lucie Inlet. The St. Lucie Canal (C-44), along with the Caloosahatchee River (C-43) are important components of the Central and Southern Florida Project and are primarily used for water releases from Lake Okeechobee when lake levels exceed established regulatory requirements of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The C-44 Basin is particularly dependent on the lake for supplemental water supply and aquifer recharge.\nThis report serves as an archive of processed single-beam bathymetry data that were collected in Loxahatcheee and St. Lucie Rivers, Florida in 2003. Geographic information system data products include a XYZ data, bathymetric contours, and USGS quadrangle map. Additional files include formal Federal Geographic Data Committee metadata.",

- "description": "Multiple sources of mine drainage including discharge from the abandoned Dinero mine tunnel and two gulches flow into a wetland, known herein as the Dinero wetland along the Lake Fork Creek corridor. The Dinero wetland is approximately 20 acres in extent. The Dinero wetland is being considered as a location for passive treatment of the mine drainage flowing through it. As such, study objectives are to understand: (1) variations in pH, specific conductance, and temperature in surface water in the wetland; (2) metal loading into and out of the wetland; (3) the configuration of surface drainage features; (4) the configuration of subsurface conductive features; and (4) depth to bedrock in the wetland. These data will be used to help understand whether the wetland is currently and naturally treating the mine drainage flowing through it and will help pinpoint locations needing additional investigations to help inform potential passive treatment scenarios.\nWater quality field parameters (temperature, pH, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen) were measured in the Dinero wetland complex downstream from Sugarloaf gulch, Little Sugarloaf gulch, and Dinero tunnel discharge and locations near and directly at the Nelson tunnel discharge in June 2024. Data were collected from multiple points at existing surface-water drainage channels and at upwelling groundwater/spring locations. A geographic information system was used to prepare maps of the four different parameters to help understand variation in these parameters across the Dinero wetland complex. Waters originating at Nelson Tunnel, Sugarloaf Gulch, and Little Sugarloaf Gulch had depressed pH, elevated specific conductance, and mixed dissolved oxygen and temperature signatures. Waters originating from Dinero tunnel had near neutral pH, moderate temperatures, and elevated specific conductance and dissolved oxygen values. Samples in the northern portion of the wetland had lower specific conductance and dissolved oxygen and greater pH than samples in other portions of the wetland. Temperatures of these sites were generally moderate compared to those in other portions of the wetland. Spring samples had values generally within the range of values for each parameter. \n",

- "description": "The Coquille River system is an unregulated system that encompasses 2,745 square kilometers of southwestern \nOregon and flows into the Pacific Ocean near the town of Bandon, Oregon. Beginning in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, \nthe South Fork Coquille River gains the Middle Fork Coquille River (drainage area 798 square kilometers) and shortly thereafter the \nNorth Fork Coquille River (749 square kilometers). In cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Geological Survey \ncompleted a reconnaissance-level assessment of channel condition and bed-material transport relevant to the permitting of in-stream \ngravel extraction along the the South Fork Coquille River from river kilometer (RKM) 115.4 near its confluence with Upper Land Creek \nto RKM 58.5 at its confluence with the North Fork Coquille River, the mainstem Coquille River from RKM 58.5 at the confluence of the \nSouth and North Forks of the Coquille River to its mouth, the Middle Fork Coquille River from RKM 15.4 to its confluence with the \nSouth Fork Coquille River, and the North Fork Coquille River from RKM 14.6 to its confluence with the South Fork Coquille River. To \nsupport these analyses, digital channel maps were produced to depict channel and floodplain conditions in the Coquille River basin \nfrom different time periods. GIS layers defining the wetted channel and bar features and channel centerline of Hunter Creek were \ndeveloped for four time periods: 1939, 1967, 2005, and 2009. For this project, the active channel was defined as area typically \ninundated during annual high flows, and includes the low-flow channel as well as side channels, islands, and channel-flanking gravel \nbars. The wetted channel and bar feature datasets were developed by digitizing from aerial photographs. Aerial photographs from 1939 \nand 1967 were scanned, rectified, and mosaicked for this project (See metadata for each photograph set for more information on the \nrectification process and resolution of each dataset). Digital orthophotographs from 2005 and 2009 are publicly available.",

- "title": "Channel centerline for the Coquille River, Oregon in 1939"

- "description": "Reflectance data from HyMap™ were processed using the Material Identification and Characterization Algorithm (MICA), a module of the USGS PRISM (Processing Routines in IDL for Spectroscopic Measurements) software (Kokaly, 2011), programmed in Interactive Data Language (IDL; Harris Geospatial Solutions, Broomfield, Colorado). The HyMap reflectance data are provided and described in this data release. MICA identifies the spectrally predominant mineral(s) in each pixel of imaging spectrometer data by comparing continuum-removed spectral features in the pixel’s reflectance spectrum to continuum-removed absorption features in reference spectra of minerals, vegetation, water, and other materials. Linear continuum removal is a technique to isolate an absorption feature from background spectral variations (Clark and Roush, 1984). Following continuum removal of a spectral feature in a reference spectrum and the corresponding channels in an imaging spectrometer pixel, the coefficient of determination (r2) of a linear regression of these continuum-removed values is used as the metric to judge the degree of match (or fit) between the unknown and reference spectra. MICA analysis is controlled by a command file, which lists the reference spectra for comparison to imaging spectrometer pixel spectra, the wavelength regions for continuum removal and spectral feature comparison, and other parameters (see Kokaly, 2011). For each pixel, the reference spectrum with the highest fit value identifies the predominant mineral class. The reference spectra used in this MICA analysis are available to the public in the USGS spectral library (Kokaly and others, 2017). The MICA command file used in this study was adapted from that used to process HyMap data covering Afghanistan (Kokaly and others, 2013). The MICA command file is provided in this data release and also in the digital appendix of Graham and others (2018).",

This information provides an effective means of relating observed change to possible causes of the change.
